- Who can read my messages?
- Only you and your helper. Messages are encrypted on your phone and can only be opened on your helper's phone. Our server passes them along and deletes each one once it arrives.
- Will my command find out?
- It depends on the type of helper. Chaplains keep what you say private unless you give written consent. MFLCs and licensed counselors keep it private but must act in some cases, like a risk of harm. Peer supporters will offer to connect you with a counselor if you seem at risk. Read the exact rules for each helper.
- Do I have to give my name?
- You enter your name and contact details when you register, but your phone locks them before they are sent. We store the locked box and cannot open it. Helpers see a made-up name unless you choose to share your details with them.
- Why do you ask for my .mil email address?
- Only to confirm that you serve. We send a code to that address and you type it in the app. We do not save the address.
- What is Safety Locate?
- It lets an MFLC or licensed counselor see your phone's location if they believe you or someone else is in immediate danger. It works only if you turned it on, and never with a chaplain or peer. You see a message on your screen when it is used, and every use is reviewed. Read more about Safety Locate.
- Does the app track me?
- No. There are no ads, no analytics and no trackers. The app uses your location only if you share it or if a counselor starts Safety Locate because you may be in danger.
- How long are my messages kept?
-
Messages stay only on your phone and your helper's phone, for a set number of days after the last message:
Chaplain, 14 days; Licensed Counselor, 30 days; Military and Family Life Counselor, 30 days; Peer Supporter, 7 days.
You can make this shorter for any conversation.
- What if I lose my phone?
- Your messages are not stored on our server, so they cannot be brought back. Your helper's phone keeps its copy until the time limit for that conversation ends.
- Can I switch helpers?
- Yes. You can ask for a different helper at any time, and you do not have to say why. You can also block a helper and report them to a Safety Officer.
- Can I delete my account?
- Yes. In the app, open Settings and delete your account. What our server holds about you is deleted right away.
- Is this a Department of Defense program?
- No. ClearSix is an independent service. It is not part of, run by or endorsed by the Department of Defense or any military branch.
